2 Weeks in and I'm still being surprise. . . . .

One of the key reasons I applied for a job at the university where I'm currently working is its outstanding commitment to the mental well-being of both staff and students. Their website clearly emphasises the importance of work-life balance and prioritises everyone’s mental and physical health.

These days, most companies mention mental well-being on their websites, but actually practicing it is another matter entirely. I can honestly say that this university not only lives up to its promises but surpasses them. They have not just one, but two departments dedicated to the well-being of staff and students, and they are adequately staffed, which truly demonstrates their dedication. Moreover, they have developed a dedicated app for mental well-being where you can access a variety of podcasts covering topics from managing anxiety to relaxation techniques. The app even features an AI companion to assist during challenging times and includes exercises to enhance your breathing and physical condition, ensuring that support and resources are easily accessible for everyone.

As the SIH Manager, part of my role involves serving as the Deputy Safeguarding Officer for the campus, which puts me at the forefront for anyone dealing with mental health issues—a responsibility that I find particularly rewarding. The university provides thorough training for this position, ensuring I’m fully prepared to fulfil my duties effectively. They also facilitate connections with various healthcare organisations, keeping me updated on the latest developments and best practices in safeguarding and mental health care. This aligns perfectly with my recent completion of the Level 2 Counsellor Skills course and receiving my certification just a few days ago.

Although I've only been with the university for two weeks, each day brings pleasant surprises that reaffirm my decision to join this institution. The supportive environment and genuine commitment to well-being have made me feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this community. Every day, I become more convinced that I truly lucked out with this job, and I eagerly anticipate what lies ahead!
